Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breast using implants filled with silicone gel or saline, a salt-water solution. Breast implants are inserted behind each breast, either above or below the muscle, depending on the particular patient. Women choose to have breast augmentation surgery for a variety of reasons. Some women wish to enhance their body contour because they feel that their breasts are too small. Other women seek to correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy and nursing, or to balance a difference in breast size. The results of breast augmentation can be subtle or dramatic, and depend on a patient’s personal preferences. For many of Dr. Ackerman’s patients, the results of breast augmentation surgery are satisfying and exhilarating.

		This patient is a typical presentation of someone with a minimal amount of breast tissue and no significant skin looseness. She underwent breast augmentation using an incision just below her areola. Note the nice proportion and projection of the breast with adequate fullness in the upper pole.
		This patient has a moderately small amount of her own breast tissue and wished to have only a mild enlargement. She should achieve her goals after surgery, as her breasts will be naturally fuller.
		This patient has slight drooping and looseness of her breasts with some excess skin. She underwent breast augmentation, which corrected the drooping and created a more pleasing shape without any unnatural upper bulges.
		This patient has minimal breast tissue and somewhat tight skin. She requested only a mild enlargement, and achieved her goals with a pleasant breast shape and moderate projection of the breast.
		This patient requested that the hollow appearance of the upper portion of her breast be corrected. After breast augmentation, her breast appeared much more proportionate without any telltale signs of implants.
		This patient requested a creation of cleavage and a proportionate enlargement of her breasts. After surgery, pleasant cleavage and proportionate breast volume were achieved. This patient had noticed a decrease in breast volume in the past few years, with her remaining breast tissue bottoming out. Combined with appropriate surgical planning, restoration of the breast shape to a more youthful appearance can be achieved without any telltale signs of surgery.
		This patient likes her overall breast shape. She lost some breast volume recently and wants to achieve more projection, but does not want significant enlargement. Her goals were met, achieving a natural proportionate augmentation.
