After Cosmetic Surgery
After your cosmetic surgery procedure, your plastic surgeon will give you a list of post-operative instructions. Follow these instructions carefully, in order to ensure a fast recovery and to minimize complications of cosmetic surgery.
Before your cosmetic surgery procedure, your plastic surgeon should give you an indication of what your recovery from cosmetic surgery will be like so that you can adjust your schedule accordingly. Cosmetic surgery recovery times vary based on procedure and individual characteristics.
Depending on the type and extent of your plastic surgery procedure, you may be able to go home the same day as your surgery, but you will need someone to drive you. If you have pain, let your plastic surgeon know. He or she can prescribe something to alleviate the pain.
Most people can return to work within a few days to two weeks after cosmetic surgery.
Cosmetic Surgery Recovery Garments
Immediately following your plastic surgery procedure, your doctor may instruct you to continuously wear a compression garment. Cosmetic surgery support garments are designed to help improve blood circulation and reduce swelling, thereby decreasing your plastic surgery recovery time.

Cosmetic Surgery Scars
Some people choose to keep a low profile after cosmetic surgery because they are uncomfortable with visible bruising or scarring. However, many newer plastic surgery techniques allow for less invasive cosmetic surgery procedures, which will minimize scars from cosmetic surgery. Because plastic surgery requires an incision, there is no way to completely eliminate scarring, but plastic surgeons are becoming increasingly better at hiding incision lines.
Many cosmetic surgeons have special make-up to cover swelling, bruising, and scarring from cosmetic surgery, although make-up is not usually allowed until the site has begun to heal.
Cosmetic Surgery Results
In some instances, the results of your cosmetic surgery may not be fully evident for up to one year.Although the initial swelling and bruising will diminish each day, it can take an extended amount of time to see the full effects of some procedures.
