According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in 2007, plastic surgeons performed a total of 347,524 breast augmentation procedures, making breast augmentation the most widely performed cosmetic surgery procedure in 2007. This breast augmentation statistic represents a 64% increase over the number of procedures performed in the year 2000. The second most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedure for 2007 was liposuction, at 301,882, followed by nose reshaping (rhinoplasty) at 284,960, eyelid surgery at 240,660, and tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) at 148,410.
Minimally-Invasive Cosmetic Procedures
The top minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure for 2007 was Botox®, with 4,625,192 procedures performed. The second most commonly performed minimally-invasive procedure for 2007 was Hyaluronic Acid (Hylaform®, Restylane®, Juvederm™) at 1,050,722, followed by chemical peel at 1,024,788, laser hair removal at 905,940, and microdermabrasion at 896,505.
