One way to lessen the risks of breast augmentation surgery is to seek out
a
plastic surgeon who has been certified by the American Board of Plastic
Surgery.
Doctors who are thus certified have graduated from an accredited medical
school; completed five years of additional residency, including general
surgery and plastic surgery; and have actively practiced for two years.
Many doctors who claim to be cosmetic surgeons are not actually trained to
be surgeons.
In addition, it is important to talk to several board-certified plastic
surgeons before settling on the one who will do your breast augmentation.
Also, speak to other patients, get before and after pictures of women who
have had breast augmentation and find out how many breast augmentation
procedures the board-certified plastic surgeon does each year.
Taking these steps does not guarantee risk-free surgery, but they'll improve
the odds of a good outcome.
