The trend in implants appears to be moving toward more viscous fillers and implants that are less likely to leak. This includes the cohesive silicone currently in FDA trials. Other implant fillers under development include a form of naturally derived hyaluronic acid and a more cohesive saline filler achieved with the addition of a substance called polyethelene glycol (PEG). It is still unclear when and if the FDA will approve the general use of these implants upon the completion of current studies.
